Luang Prabang

Friendly, peaceful Laos is located in the center of Southeast Asia and is a land locked country bordering Myanmar, Cambodia, China, Thailand, and Vietnam. Laos has 18 provinces. The beautiful, charming Luang Prabang which is in the north of Lao, is full of history and unique traditions and culture. The town of Luangprabang is surrounding by the rivers Mekong and Khan which become a part of the people’s lifestyle. People are full of smiles and warm welcomes. The world heritage buildings in town are full of convenient stores and easy are to get to. Traditional foods are full of fresh and healthy ingredients. There is also a variety of transportation provided in town.



What to do in Luang Prabang?

The community that we are working with are full of new experiences and unique traditions and culture. In these communities, people are of different ethnicities from town and their lifestyles are mostly still in keeping with original traditions and their own cultures. The personalities of people in the community will attract you to stay and live there. The areas do not have many conveniences but they meet your needs.

Ban Chan Nuer Village

The first village that we are working with is Ban Chan Nuer, which is across the river. You have to take the boat there; they also have a ferry to serve you too. The village are surround by nature, mountain and fresh air , in this village we are helping them with the primary school for children in community that still lack the good condition of facility and play ground, sport stadium, Hygiene and fence for safety,  in the village are also need the clean water to use and to drink, they don’t have the water tank to supply the community, most of them are still use the Mekong river to supply the house work.

nong heo Village

Second village is Ban Nongheo, far from town. It takes almost 45 minutes to reach the area, this village is also surround by nature, and mountains, full of fresh air. They are far from conveniences but they can fulfill the needs of people who visit and support their village. In the school there is a lack of a good quality facilities, such as library and sport stadium.  In the village they do not ahve enough water to supply all families in the village, or  good roads to get to the village.

Volunteer Work/Community Service

Volunteer work together with village people. Clean the school,  pick up the trash, Construction work for changing school roof and village facility. Through this volunteer work, you can learn the community life from villagers. In addition, you can try buy local food in market and learn to prepare local food from villagers too.


Learn the new culture and tradition from homestay. You can help housework of your host family and make a new friendship with local family. 


Wat Xieng Thong

One of the most important place that full of story about Lao culture and remains a significant monument to the spirit of religion, royalty and traditional art. There are over 20 structures on the grounds including a sim, shrines, pavilions and residences, in addition to its gardens of flowers, ornamental shrubs, and trees.


Phousi is a hill in the center of the old town of Luang Prabang which has 328 stair to calm up to the top, It lies in the heart of the old town  and is bordered on one side by the Mekong River and on the other side by the Nam Khan River. The hill is a local religious site, and houses are several Buddhist shrines. Also it’s a great place to make you see the most lovely sun rise and wonderful sun set.

royal palace

The Royal Palace in Luang Prabang, Laos, was built in 1904 during the French colonial era for King Sisavang Vong and his family. After the death of King Sisavang Vong, the Crown Prince Savang Vatthana and his family were the last to occupy the grounds. In 1975, the monarchy was overthrown by the communists and the royal family were taken to re-education camps. The palace was then converted into a national museum.

morning market

Morning market, are next to the Museum, they will have two side of seller, mostly is for locals people, But most of the seller, selling anything from rice, to fresh vegetables, to steamed fish, frogs, and anything else that might be the day's catch, just set up on the ground. Others come from across the Mekong by riverboat. they are gone around late morning to mid day.

night market

Night market event  takes place between 17:00 and 23:00 beginning at Wat Mai and running along Sisavangvong Road to the town centre (Settathilat Road). In the night market they are many varliety things that unique for sell such as ceramics, bamboo, lamps, blankets, bed covers, handicrafts and silk scarves and else... There also have the food area that selling the tradition lao food, that are fresh and very full fill your tast, they also have a place for traditional dessert .

New Years Day

Lao new year in Lao start between 14th to 16th of April, similar to Thailand, it’s along public holiday for Lao people, it’s full of the historic celebrate for this new year. Day one they will have market fare on the long main street for half day Morning, they will close the main street just for people to come and sell things, in the evening they also have another event to the island of Mekong river, people will go and build the sand mountain to worship the Nagar. Day two they will have  along palace on the main street for a daughter of Pha Phom who had 7 daughters, every year they will change to next person of his daughters to do, they will walk from Wattha temple in town to Wat Xiengthong temple and day three they will bring the head of Pha Phom back to Watthad.  it has more deeper story about these, so you have to come to hear and see by yourself you will feel and face a wonderful experience and the beauty of the new year celebration with us.

boat racing

Boat racing for the date between the last week of August or the first week of September, it has 2 days celebration for Lao people, day one they have a market fare like , Lao new years, the market fare happen on the main street only twice a year, on Lao new year and Boat racing, for second day early morning they will have a big group of Lao people come to the temple and give arm on the main street and in the afternoon start around 1 pm, every village they will come to Nam Kham river to do the competition of Boat racing, in the same time along the road of the Nam kham river they will close and have a market fare along the road , people are turn on the music loud , some people will sing and some people will dance, it such a great experience, fun and full of joy.

Fire Boat Competition

In November, it’s happen only one night but during this time around town you will see that people will selling ‘Ka-Tolng’ which make from banana tree, decoration by banana leave and flower to put it on the Mekong and let it go a long the river by it self, people believe that ‘Ka-Tolng’ will take a way their abd luck. In the same time each village will prepare the fire boat to the contest, also in each house people will light the candle and every temple also lighting the candle or lamp on the yard or around temple. On the big day of the fire boat, every village will meet in the mean street to make a long palate about those, these are the favorite time for most people because it show the beauty of the culture and the magical light that can shine your day to have a perfect peace that you will never ever seen anywhere.
