Empowering young people: Strengthening the digital skills partnership between YMCA, HP

Date: 05 February 2025

At the World YMCA headquarters on Tuesday, YMCA and HP signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to deepen our collaboration in advancing digital equity and future skilling for young people worldwide. This partnership builds on our shared mission to bridge the digital divide and empower young people through innovative learning tools.

“Digital equity and inclusion are essential for empowering young people to drive change”, said World YMCA Secretary General Carlos Sanvee. “Research consistently shows that individuals risk being left behind without strong digital skills in today’s rapidly evolving landscape. We are grateful for the opportunity to strengthen our partnership with HP and create a lasting impact together.”

A key element of our collaboration is HP’s Gaming Garage. By offering this resource to YMCAs, we’re harnessing the power of gaming to build critical skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, and digital literacy. This initiative enhances digital learning and ensures that young people gain future-ready skills in an engaging, inclusive environment.

The momentum from last week’s opening of the Digital Hub and Gaming Garage at YMCA Bratislava (Slovakia), attended by 22 YMCAs, sets the stage for this exciting next phase.

Said Bernhard Fauser, VP and Managing Director Central and Eastern Europe at HP, noting YMCA and HP have joined forces since 2022, “to equip young individuals across the globe, with the tools and digital skills they need to be prepared for the future of work. Now, in addition to leveraging our HP technology via HP HOPE and business skills content via our HP LIFE platform, YMCA will implement the HP Gaming Garage, our leading educational gaming and creation program designed to foster skills in programming, design, and prototyping”.

YMCA and HP are equipping young people with the tools and opportunities needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
